Beer booming in Shelton area, report reveals

Connecticut and several other parts of the United States make a great amount of money brewing and selling beer, says the Beer Institute and National Beer Wholesalers Association.

The organizations disclosed its report ‘Beer Serves America’ in one of the hearings by Congress last week. Much of the action takes place near Shelton.

According to the report, Connecticut's economy in 2014 saw $2bin from the 49 breweries and 74 wholesale beer companies. A total of14,525 people worked for beer companies during that time in fields like agriculture, transportation, construction, mining, real estate, entertainment, wholesale, retail, travel, and manufacturing.

Almost 40% of those jobs are in Shelton's congressional districts, with 6,145. In total, they made nearly $750m and brought in over $2m in taxes. The GDP of the U.S. last year was 1.5% beer, and 1.75 million people have a job related to the beer industry in this country. The product had an impact of $253bn and brought in $48.5bn in taxes on the local, state, and federal level.

Several bars and restaurants in Shelton sell beer that was brewed by one of the many local breweries. If a brewer comes out with a new beer, a restaurant might want to add it to its menu on a temporary or permanent basis. It could hire a Print company to make new menu inserts.
