The 68th yearly Kennedy Center meeting and awards dinner will be at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport this week.
The event will start with an hour of socializing at 6:00 pm. An hour later, guests will have dinner, a meeting, and the awards ceremony will begin.
The theme this year is The Power of Purpose and the main speaker will be global advocate and Long Island resident John D. Kemp, who will also receive the Vision Award.
Kemp co-founded the American Association of People with Disabilities and has been in a lead role for multiple disability organizations. Currently, he is the Viscardi Center's CEO and President. The center is a nonprofit that aids disabled individuals in finding a job, getting an education, and advocating for themselves. He himself has four prostheses and has over half a century's experience with disability advocacy.
The annual meeting and awards dinner for the Kennedy Center honors individuals who have made large strides and delivered a substantial amount for the disabled community. These include volunteers, employees, employers, and professional support. Milford co-chair Rachelle Mitchell, Shelton resident Dottie Kellersman, and residents of Trumbull Kavid Kmetz, Randye Kaye, and Joe Dennin all serve on the committee.
With the event taking place this Thursday, April 4, tickets are $50 and can be bought online or by phone. Event tickets often have the Logo Design of the organization on them so attendees know they are genuine.
