Orchestra presents eclectic spring line-up

Norwalk Symphony Orchestra will present its last three performances for the 2021-2022 season over the next three months.

From 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 20, Music for All Ages will present Carnival of the Animals. Norwalk Symphony and The Norwalk Youth Symphony’s Principal Orchestra will perform Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky. Avery Duer the 2020 Young Artists Concerto Competition winner will play the competition’s winning piece, Saint-Saen’s Carnival of the Animals.

The 2022 Young Artist Concerto Competition winner, sixteen-year-old cellist Caleb Sharp will be guest soloist playing Elgar’s Concerto in E minor, op 85. Winner of the Symphony’s Gala Auction, Harry Demott, will be the guest conductor for the William Tell Overture.

Proud parents of young people who win music competitions often take pictures of their future stars and submit the photos to local print shops to get duplicates made for family and friends.

On April 23 at 8:00 pm, a two-hour program will have members of the Brubeck family bringing their old and new jazz works to Norwalk once again. The score from On the Waterfront and the Star Wars Suite will comprise the remainder of the evening.

The Verdi Requiem will bring the symphony’s 2021-2022 season to a close on Saturday, May 21 from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. The work will be played by the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, a double choir, and four soloists.

Performances will be at the Norwalk Concert Hall at 125 East Avenue.
