The Tactical Response Team of the Norwalk Police Department will be hosting a memorial run for the anniversary of 9/11. Proceeds of the run will benefit Tunnel to Towers.
Since it is the 25th anniversary of the events of 9/11. the run will last for 25 hours and will be 25 miles long. The night before the anniversary, members of the department will run for one mile at the top of every hour. This will continue for the next 25 hours, with the option of carrying a vest weighing 20lb. This will continue until 6:00 pm on the day of the anniversary. Each run will start at 1 North Water Street.
A group or person lost in the attack will be honored for each mile. This includes 14 people who were residents of Norwalk and each division of Emergency Services that responded at Ground Zero.
Members of the community may also help with flyer printing to promote events like this locally, thereby expanding outreach and encouraging greater participation.
The Tactical Response Team handles major incidents such as search and rescue, execution of high-risk search warrants, and barricaded subjects. Members of this team are specially trained and equipped to respond to these types of incidents.
This event will start at 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 10 and continue until Friday, September 11 at 6:00 pm.
