Norwalk warms up for arrival of quartet
The renowned Emerson String Quartet will be performing in the area the middle of this month, in what will be the quartet’s 40th Anniversary Celebration.
The program will feature works by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Beethoven, so Norwalk arts patrons will want to mark their calendars.
Philip Setzer and Eugene Drucker will be the violinists, Lawrence Dutton will play the viola, and Paul Walkins will play the cello. As the Quartet-in-Residence at Stony Brook University, Professors Setzer and Dutton are full-time faculty members and Professors Drucker and Watkins are part-time faculty members. Watkins, the newest member of the group, joined the ensemble back in 2013.
The ensemble has released more than 30 recordings, and of the nine Grammys it has received, two were for Best Classical Album. Other accolades came with the Avery Fisher Prize, three Gramophone Awards, and Musical America’s ‘Ensemble of the Year’. In January 2015, the Quartet received Chamber Music America’s highest honor in the Richard J. Bogomoiny National Service Award.
A Post-Concert Anniversary Party will begin backstage immediately following the performance. Guests will meet the members of the quartet and enjoy champagne and dessert. The reception requires reservations, and admission is not included in the concert ticket.
The recital will be at the Palace-Stamford Center for the Arts, 61 Atlantic St., Stamford on Saturday, January 14. The curtain will rise at 8:00 pm.
