Norwalk to delve into its past
Norwalk Preservation Trust will be giving its sixth Victorian Splendor Living History tour in a couple of weeks. The bus tour will take guests to four locations of Norwalk’s Victorian monuments, homes, and churches.
In addition to the guide’s commentary on the 19th Century, each location will have actors recreating the ambience of the Gilded Age.
The first stop will be the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum, a National Historic Landmark built in 1868. Next, the bus will take tourists to Golden Hill, where they will tour a Queen Anne home. The tour will continue on to Cranbury, where guests will be treated to a walk through a Second Empire house.
During the visit to Union Cemetery, guests will explore the Victorian obsession of death, and a tour through Mary’s church will exhibit Gothic Revival architecture. The route will take the tour passed neighborhoods where houses in which Victorian factory workers lived are still standing. It will also pass by factories and the Washington Street’s commercial district.
At the end of the tour, guests will receive refreshments in the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum. Photo taken along the tour would make interesting subjects for personal stationery printing.
The event is slated for September 25 and will take place at the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum at 295 West Avenue, Norwalk and will be from 12:30 pm until 5:30 pm.
