Norwalk music students ready for festival
Many of our local music students have their calendars marked and are getting ready for the 2017 Young Artists Festival.
The Norwalk Symphony will be offering this unique opportunity to both string and wind players this year.
The two-day event will have strings and winds competition. The concerto competition will be in the evening of the final day.
Competitors in the first level of competition, Festival I, will be string players who have had private lessons for two years. Festival II will have wind and string students under the age of 12 who have taken private lessons for two to six years. This group will have a beginning theory test.
Junior competition will be string and wind students between the ages of 12 and 15 who have had private lessons for four or more years. This division will have the intermediate theory test. String and winds students between ages 13 and 18 who have studied for five years or more with private tutors will be playing in the senior competition and will be taking the advanced theory test.
The Concerto Competition is open to all instruments, but the student must be residing in Fairfield County.
The event will be January 28 and 29 at the Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue. On Saturday, the event will be from 12:00 until 5:00 pm, and Sunday’s Concerto Competition will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
