Norwalk cleans up for Earth Day
As part of Earth Day, Keep Norwalk Beautiful, the City of Norwalk, Mayor Harry Rilling and the residents of Norwalk are joining forces to carry out the Mayor’s Clean City Initiative Spring Cleanup.
The mayor will be at Norwalk’s City Hall’s main entrance, 125 East Avenue, on April 27 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to hand out bags, gloves, litter pick up tools, and T-shirts touting the event’s graphic design.
Teams are invited to choose a site such as a local beach, park, neighborhood, shoreline, school yard, or business area and police it by picking up litter and clearing away rubbish. Adopting a location to clean up all year long is also an option.
Norwalk authorities are currently in the process of identifying habitually abused sites. Once identified, the city will enforce preventive measures such as overgrowth removal, and contacting property owners. Dedicated volunteers and local environmental groups have already helped the city make an impact along the Norwalk River.
Each team can take before-and-after pictures of their cleanup site and submit it for chances to win gift cards. Winners will be chosen randomly. The first place winning entry will receive a $100 gift card, and second place will get a $50 card and third place will receive a $25 one.
Norwalk Land Trust Earth Day Presentation will be April 22 at 7:00 pm at City Hall. Louise Washer, NRWA’s president, will speak on creating a pollinator corridor in Norwalk.
