What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Lockwood-Mathers Mansion has holiday guided tours

The last chance for Norwalk to visit the Lockwood-Mathers Mansion’s holiday exhibits will be in early January.

The third floor of the museum has been turned over to the new exhibit “Christmas Playtime at the Museum.” Children who lived in the mansion from 1868 until 1938 had actually played with these vintage toys and dolls from the Victorian Era.

Down on the first floor, Christmas trees are decorated with ornaments found during the Victorian Era. The dining table will be laden with antique china and silver and the area will be teeming with toy and doll vignettes. Stacey Danielson has created the ornate Victorian gowns on display.

Contemporary displays and Christmas trees by Vandamm Interiors will surround the silk-garlanded, ribboned, and trimmed Victorian staircase.

All tickets for the 45-minute tours must be purchased online and each tour is limited to five visitors. Adult tickets are $10; tickets for seniors 62 and over are $8, and student admission is $6. Children under eight years old are free.

Many museums that decorate for holidays usually have pictures taken of the exhibits. These photos are then included in the visitors’ brochure printing for the following year.

The Lockwood-Mathers Holiday Guided Tours will be available on specified days from noon until 12:45 pm until January 3, 2021.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is located at 295 West Avenue.
