Local museum presents talks and exhibits
The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will be opening two new exhibits, and will also present two virtual talks over the next couple of months.
On April 8, the museum will open a new exhibit called, “Health, Healing & Addition in 19th Century America.” The exhibit will explore the beginning of modern medicine and scientific developments featuring instruments, artifacts, photographs, and costumes. The exhibit will end on October 17.
Also on April 8, a new contemporary art instillation titled “Socially Distant Art: Creativity in Lockdown” will open. Curated by Gail Ingis, an artist and Museum trustee, the exhibit will house work created by artists around the country during the pandemic.
On Sunday, April 11 beginning at 2:00 pm, the museum will present a virtual talk called “Collecting Medical History” given by Dr. Donald Blaufox from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Department of Nuclear Medicine. He will discuss his antique medical objects collection.
Anastasia Mils Healy will be presenting a free online lecture titled “Secret Connecticut: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure” on May 16 starting at 2:00 pm. She will be reading a few of the 84 stories from her new book of the same name. Healy has collected stories from Connecticut’s long history of interesting events, places and people.
