Junior musicians ready for annual competition
Many Norwalk musicians, as well as their peers from Fairfield County, are getting ready for the 11th Annual Norwalk Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Concerto Competition.
The competition has been designed to provide feedback to help entrants improve their performing skills. The winner of the competition will be guest soloist in the March 26th “Music for All
Ages” Norwalk Symphony Orchestra concert.
Entrants must be under 18 and either a resident of Fairfield County or a music student of a local teacher. Requirements also include two years of private study, to be available for rehearsals and performances, and to give consent for photo and media releases. All repertoires must be 12 minutes or less, performed in their entirety, and memorized.
The first round of performances will be video-taped and uploaded on YouTube. Participants should be professionally dressed and may use accompanists. Once the first rounds are passed, the contestants will audition in the finals on Saturday, January 28.
Parents of winners in competitions like this often take pictures of their music prodigies to local print shops for copies that are then sent to relatives.
The public is welcome at the January 28 competition. General admission tickets will be available for $20 for adults, and student tickets for those under 18 will be free.
The 2023 Young Artists Concerto Competition will begin at 3:00 pm at Norwalk City Hall.
