What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Free Comic Book Day returns to Norwalk

Originating in 2002, the Free Comic Book Day event has been hosted by Heroes Comics & Cards in Norwalk to bring community members together to celebrate their love of comic books and card collecting. This year, the event coincides with Marvel Studios’ release of Iron Man 3, which debuts this month.

In response to the new Marvel film release, many major comic book companies (in addition to independent publishers and mid-sized publishers) have made an effort to attract the attention of the comic book audience.

As much as comic books have a strong underground following, the event is intended to draw attention to the genre as an art form rather than a graphic novel. The resilient art form has survived TV, radio, videogames, and the Internet to remain a popular pastime.

This year, the event will feature 52 comics for giveaway, ranging from popular comics to promotional issues.

Dave Kruseski, the owner of Heroes, Comics & Cards, boasts a store full of comics and related merchandise, featuring only the best. He says,
“My customers look forward to this event, and well, who am I to say no?”

Kruseski will be present at the event to host and answer questions from visitors and aspiring comic book writers and artists. The use of printing companies can greatly benefit small local events like these as they can be used to produce promotional material.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 197 Westport Ave in Norwalk from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm.
