Community makes NICE a traditional festival
Since 2016, NICE (Norwalk International Cultural Exchange) has hosted a day of community building and unity in the form of an annual festival. This year, the NICE Festival will take place early in July.
The free event will feature international culture though food, musicians, dancers, and craft vendors.
The venue will have kid vendors around the Child of the World Stage, kites and bubbles in the lawn, other vendors along the path, and dining and wine/beer tents.
Sweet Melody will emcee all day on the Main Stage. Performances will include Ecuadorian dance, Chinese cultural art, bluegrass/folk music, flamenco, Brazilian Bossa Nova jazz, and traditional Laotian music.
Afternoon performances will include Cuban salsa, Haitian dance, Caribbean steel pan, Tibetan Chinese dance, an Indiana Navratri artist, soul, R&B, and reggae.
The Child of the World Stage will have April Jackson as the emcee, and entertainment will include an open drum circle, brass quartet, Chinese performing artists, and mariachi. Other entertainment offered at this stage later in the afternoon will include a maypole dance, Haitian dance, Tibetan Chinese performance, Peruvian dance, and a Chinese dance.
Guests are invited to bring chairs, blankets and cash. Pictures taken at events such as this occasionally become part of the city’s future visitor guide brochure printing.
NICE Festival will take place Saturday, July 9 from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm at Oyster Shell Park on North Water Street.
