2021 Memorial Day events planned in Norwalk
Norwalk will be celebrating Memorial Day with in-person activities during May.
Tomorrow, May 16, the Military & Veterans Liaison Committee will host its annual cemetery visitation event. At 10:00 am guests will convene at City Hall for a playing of Taps, lowering the flag to half-mast and following the short memorial service, the attendees will be divided into two groups. Each group will be given a schedule to visit key flagpoles and cemeteries in Norwalk.
One such place will be at Riverside Cemetery where flag grave placement will be from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm and a special re-dedication of the Flanders Field WW l section will be at noon. Also at noon a ceremony will be held at Calf Pasture Beach’s Shea-Magrath memorial.
On May 31, Norwalk will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade from 10:00 am until noon. The parade route will begin at Veterans Park and end on East Avenue at the Town Green.
Many local athletes will be participating in the 6th annual Memorial Day Murph. This will be a hero workout benefiting Sierra Delta, an organization helping connect service dogs with veterans.
The workout will be a one-mile run, then 100 pull-ups. After that participants will do 200 push-ups followed by 300 air squats.
Participants will receive gray T-shirts sporting CrossFit Westport black graphic design.
Memorial Day Murph will be Saturday, May 29 from 8:00 am to noon at CrossFit Westport at 19 Willard Road.
