University in Parker recognized for contributions to community safety

Rocky Vista University (RVU), located in Parker, has recently been given a special award for its contributions to the safety of the community.

Mike Waid, mayor of Parker, and the town recently honored RVU for its contributions the mass casualty drills of South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR). The university has demonstrated a dedication to training first responders, a commitment to emergency preparedness, and an ability to share its resources.

The award was given during a presentation and was accepted by the CEO and President of RVU, Clinton Adams, along with Vice President of Academic Affairs, Thomas Todd. Banner printing can be used to inform the community of such awards and partnerships between cities and institutions of higher education.

RVU has taken part in many simulation drills to train the emergency responders of Parker for worst-case scenarios. The expertise of the students, faculty, and staff of the university have been provided to the SMFR at these simulated sites, and at operating and emergency rooms of hospitals in the area. As a result, hospitals have been able to develop best practices and close to 1,000 members of the community, medical personnel, and first responders have been trained.

Training Lieutenant with SMFR, Ryan Shelton, said that the university has gone beyond what should be expected of a good “community neighbor.”
