Parker’s The Schoolhouse venue is hosting a ballet rendition of Cinderella this August.
Presented by Parker Arts and The Dance Connection, the all-ages show, themed “From Slippers to Street” features a showcase before the classical ballet featuring more modern dance numbers. The junior and senior jazz and hip-hop dance troupes will put on a preshow that includes bold and dynamic choreography to help give dance students public performance opportunities.
The Cinderella show itself traces the classic story of the titular young woman who is forced to serve as the housekeeper in her family by her stepmother, all while her two stepsisters get the privilege of being able to attend the Spring Ball.
Cinderella isn’t invited to the ball, which is rumored to be where a young prince will make an appearance looking for a prospective bride. However, after Cinderella shows an old beggar woman kindness, she is revealed to be her fairy godmother and helps her get into the ball with a brand-new outfit and carriage made from a transformed pumpkin. The old shoes Cinderella offered the beggar woman earlier get returned to her by the fairy godmother and transformed into glass slippers.
