Parker’s Pace Center is hosting a concert by Toad the Wet Sprocket this October.
The alternative rock band known for 90s hits, including songs like “Walk on the Ocean” and “All I Want,” is currently helming Rings: The Acoustic Tour throughout North America, including several cities in California, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Boston, New York City, and Portland, Oregon.
The tour takes Toad the Wet Sprocket’s most well-known songs and newer works and reimagines them as an acoustic set.
The band, known for their thoughtful lyrics, melodic ballads and harmonies, has continued to evolve its sound.
Formed in 1986, the band name Toad the Wet Sprocket was inspired by a sketch from Monty Python, of which frontman Glen Phillips is a huge fan. At the time, the band members were teens in high school. The name was originally conceived as a placeholder until something better came along but it stuck.
Phillips graduated early from high school, at 16. He completed two years at Santa Barbara City College before Toad the Wet Sprocket was officially signed by a major label, when he was 18. The band went on tour, and it’s been his career ever since.
