Trail in Parker receives special funding

Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) has given a grant worth $2m to assist Arapahoe County with building new trails and improved access to recreation in the eastern Denver metropolitan area.

The High Plains Trail, located in Parker and currently under construction, will fund the western expansion of the trail and connect it with the Cherry Creek Regional Trail. As much of the High Plains Trail runs along the E-460 corridor, the new connection will turn away from the highway and go through the future Kings Point South and Kings Point housing developments in Aurora. It will cross over Parker Road and then connect with the Cherry Creek Trail, at which point those who use the trail can go south to connect with the existing Centennial Trail in Parker, or head north on the Cherry Creek Trail.

Printing services can be used to create maps of such trails once they are completed to assist users of such trails with their recreational experience.

Chair of the Arapahoe Board of County Commissioners, Jeff Baker, said that this project is unique in that many funding sources and a diversity of partners are working together on the trail.

Among those supporting the project are the city of Aurora, Parker, several cycling organizations, and the Colorado Department of Transportation. The trail is expected to be open in 2021.
