Don Warn, the finance director of Parker, recently announced that residents will now be able to have access to all the financial data of the town by means of an online platform.
In order to get the word out about this new user-friendly tool that displays how departments within the town balance their budgets, Warn may have employed the services of various printing companies. The information on the web site contains financial information from 2012 up to the day a user logs in.
Warn’s new Open Budget platform follows in the footsteps of other cities and towns across the United States. Douglas County recently adopted the Open Data platform and, as Warn has been trying to keep abreast of the latest tools in city government, he looked to officials from Douglas County for their assistance to help him get started with the project.
Warn is excited that people will be able to see the details about how money is spent in the town from a very user-friendly standpoint.
Warn plans to expand the capabilities of the system to include permitting documents, community events, and traffic alerts. He is also looking at a tool that will measure performance on the town’s goals for recreation, health, and public safety. These additional capabilities are expected to be released in 2017.
