Many runners here in Parker will be celebrating Thanksgiving with the Turkey Day 5k Run/Walk, and Parker ice skaters will be looking forward to the opening day of Discovery Park's Ice Trail coming at the end of November.
Registration for the Turkey Day 5k Run/Walk will be $44. Swag will include souvenir race bibs and commemorative beanies featuring the event's Logo Design. Cider, hot cocoa and coffee will be waiting for runners at the finish line.
Proceeds will go to the Town of Parker Scholarship Program, which helps local families and individuals who need financial help in participating in Town Recreation facilities and programs.
The untimed race/walk will begin with waves leaving the start line from 8:00 am to 8:15 am, the course will begin and end at the Parker Recreation Center, 17301 E. Lincoln Street, and the event will take place on Thursday, November 28, rain or shine.
Friday, November 29 will be the opening day for the Parker Ice Trail. The winding ice skating path starts at Pine Drive and Main Streets and meanders through Discovery Park. Three firepits are located next to the trail, and hot chocolate and snacks are available at the concession stand.
Skate rental will be $4, admission for those over 10 years old will be $10, and admission for children 10 and under will be $8. Four-visit and entire season passes are also available.
The opening day will be from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday, November 29.
