Parker art students carry on legacy of local artist

The Grace Lutheran Church in Parker recently became a small art gallery as 19 students from the Art Academy at Lutheran High School displayed their work.

What was unusual about this exhibit was not so much that each piece was done using various mixed media, or similar in style and size, or that each canvas had a small heart shape on it, but that each piece put the finishing touches on the unfinished work of the late Henry Esparza, an artist from Denver.

After Esparza died in 2017, his wife, Sandra, donated the pieces to the school so that they could fulfill his legacy as a teacher and artist and attended the exhibition.

Mark Hollenbeck, an art teacher from Lutheran High School, commented that the students who worked on these pieces learned a great deal about Esparza’s life and much more than he could teach them in the classroom.

Sandra commented by how much each student put their own touches on Esparza’s work, some by using elements that highlighted their strengths, or using more familiar mediums. Yet, she added, they were still able to demonstrate his connection to nature, stillness, and beauty.

Students from schools such as this one might benefit from the assistance of a local Print shop to advertise their achievements via Posters and Banners.
