New branch library to open in Parker

The Parker branch of the Douglas County Library is currently under construction, with an opening date scheduled for later this month.

It will be located on East Main Street, and will replace the previous library on Crossroads Drive.

According to Amy Long, manager of the Parker branch, the new library will have an area for children, with a space where toddlers can crawl, books for reading, a room for children’s programs, and a wall-sized fixture where children can create illuminated designs.

Melissa Ancieaux, a staff writer for the Douglas County Libraries, said there are additional features that will appeal to both children and adults, such as the new digital creativity lab, where digital résumés and videos can be made, with equipment also on hand to convert tapes in VHS format to digital ones.

The building will have a more open design with fewer walls, while windows that run the height of the walls will let in more natural light. This will enable the collection to grow by 20% and provide more space for reading areas and meetings.

The open design will also enable the space to be rearranged to accommodate changes in functionality or additional visitors.

A grand opening date is set for September 24. Banners may be used around the site to announce the opening and invite residents to take in the many new features and amenities.
