Movies and music together near La Palma

A series of fun events is underway near La Palma, and there is still time to join in.

The MemorialCare Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach Music & Movies Event Series has been a staple of summer for several years, and is back in 2021.

First up is the film “Mary Poppins Returns,” which will be shown at Orville Lewis Park starting around 8:00 pm tomorrow. The next event is live music courtesy of Flyer, and the series ends with the film “Up,” starting around 8:00 pm at Little Cottonwood Park.

Flyer is a California band who have been together for 35 years, playing classic rock in the same venue for 32 years. The group today comprises Nancy Hartmann on vocals and acoustic guitar; Jim Forney on vocals, bass, and lead guitar; and Todd Hartmann on vocals, synthesizers, and keyboards.

This is an in-person event, and masks will be worn except when attendees are eating. They are also asked to maintain a six-foot distance and need a ticket for each member in their party. Attendees may bring blankets or lawn chairs and are asked to pick up after themselves. Food vendors will be on site for everyone to enjoy. Flyer printing is often used to publicize events like this.

“Mary Poppins” will be shown tomorrow (June 26). Flyer performs July 10, and “Up” will play July 24. All the events are taking place in Los Alamitos, a short distance from La Palma.
