The City of La Palma has already put plans in place for its yearly cleanup, even though the event is still a few months away.
This pickup gives residents a chance to get rid of large, bulky household items and yard waste simply by putting them out on the curb with their ordinary trash at the designated time.
Although the city is encouraging people to get rid of large items, there are some restrictions. Tree branches will not be picked up unless residents cut them down to less than four feet in length. Construction materials such as sod, rocks, dirt, asphalt, and concrete will not be accepted, nor will auto-related items like tires, parts, engines, or motor oil.
The city is also asking people not to include hazardous household waste such as paint, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and pesticides, and also do asks that residents not put out electronic waste such as computers or DVD players. They encourage anyone who does not know how to dispose of such waste to take a look at the city's website, or give them a call to discuss disposal of specific items.
The ‘Annual Bulky Item Spring Clean-up’ is scheduled for the week of May 15-19. Residents may put their bulky items at the curb next to their normal trash on their usual trash day.
Municipalities like this can benefit if officials work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents with specific instructions.
