Frances Albrier Park, here in Berkeley, will soon be the site of what is billed as the most popular soccer camp in the U.S. Several programs are available, with each geared to a particular age group.
The camp runs from Monday through Friday, with the length of instruction per day being dependent on the age of the player. The two youngest age groups - Cubs (two and three-year-olds) and Lions (four and five-year-olds) receive an hour of training. Older groups (aged six through eight and and nine through twelve) receive a half day of instruction.
The camp’s curriculum includes small-sided games, freestyle soccer, technical drills, tactical practices, coached scrimmages, and an array of foot skills. In addition to the game techniques, the players are also taught values at the camp, such as integrity, leadership, respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship.
Often, businesses will sponsor sports teams, particularly youth teams, as both a means of advertising and as a way of giving back to the community. Savvy businesses team-up, when possible, with sports camps and use flyer printing services to offer a promotion, such as donating a share of their sales or some other tie-in to subsidize players who want to attend the camp.
The British Soccer Camp runs from July 7 through July 11 on Field #1 at Frances Albrier Park. The cost per player is $107 for one-hour camps and $165 for half day camps.
