Berkeley’s Cornerstone venue is hosting Haunt Me this January.
The 1980s rock-inspired indie band formed back in 2021 with Haunt Me’s debut EP.
Taking a cue from bands such as The Strokes, The Smiths, Interpol and others, Haunt Me continued honing in on its unique sound, releasing a full-length album that same year.
Darius Davila, the singer and multi-instrumentalist, is the main creative force of the band. He recruited Hilario Bautista, a friend and former musical collaborator, with the duo writing and performing several EPs and other releases together. A third musician joins the band for live performances.
Based in San Antonio, Texas, Haunt Me operates with the culture and lyrical and melodic themes of the goth movement, including musical subgenres like darkwave. Meshing this melancholic sensibility with the introspection of post-punk and indie rock gives Haunt Me its singular style.
Davila said in a recent interview he takes inspiration for his songwriting from life experiences, movies and Books, in addition to the bands both he and Bautista both like.
The band’s latest album is Haunt Me’s sophomore effort, Watch You Bleed.
