Berkeley hosts three hit-making bands

Pixies, Spoon and Fazerdaze are all performing on the same night at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre in August.

Each of the three music acts comes from completely different eras but they’re all highly admired by fans of alternative rock. The Pixies have been active since the 1980s, influencing bands like Nirvana along the way. Spoon made their debut in the 1990s and Fazerdaze made her first impression on the music scene in 2017.

All three bands have taken long hiatuses at some point in their careers, with Fazerdaze representing the most recent comeback. The New Zealand solo artist and multi-instrumentalist, whose real name is Amelia Murray, was thrust into the spotlight and critical success at a young age, with her debut album Morningside. In 2024, she released the follow-up album Soft Power.

Charles Thompson is the frontman of the Pixies — he’s known as Black Francis when fronting the band and also goes by Frank Black as a solo artist. Thompson is known as much for his thought-provoking lyrics as he is for his unique delivery on songs like Here Comes Your Man and Where is My Mind.
