Berkeley to host alternative rock icons
Indie rock darlings The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse and Dehd are all performing at the U.C. Berkeley’s Greek Theatre this September.
Both The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse had a similar trajectory in terms of transforming from relatively obscure indie bands into chart-topping hit-makers in the mid-2000s. For The Flaming Lips, the futuristic sounds of their album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots had breakthrough commercial success, in particular with the track “Do You Realize?,” which was featured in the Adam Sandler comedy film 50 First Dates.
The post-grunge folk sensibilities of Modest Mouse also saw an explosion of commercial success with their breakout song, “Float On.” The pop-rock ballad was something of a departure from the melancholic songs filled with thought-provoking lyrics that the Pacific Northwest-based band was known for. Both The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse have continued a steady output of music since then.
Joining them is the Chicago-based band Dehd. The band is newer to the music scene, having risen to prominence in the past decade after it began as a grassroots passion project amongst its members.
Concerts like this may choose to use print shops to create everything from album art to promotional material.
