Those interested in learning about local mushrooms can attend a two-day workshop next month, offered by the Blue Wind School of Botanical Studies in Berkeley.
The Edible & Medicinal Mushrooms of California course will introduce students to local winter fungal Forms found throughout the Northern California coast. The program engages participants by combining classroom lectures with field exploration and hands-on activities. Topics covered in the course include ethical harvesting guidelines, mushroom toxicology, and coverage of recent taxonomic changes. Students will also get to sample edible mushrooms in the class.
The course will take place at an 80-acre woodland property located about two hours north of Berkeley. Guests have the option of camping at the property overnight for no additional cost. People who wish to camp during the course must bring their own tent, sleeping bag, meals, and other camping necessities. The class also recommends students to wear rain clothes and hiking boots. Attendees should bring a mushroom cleaning brush and collection Bags as well.
The two-day workshop will be held on January 23 and January 24 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The class fee will cost $200 per student, though those who register before this Sunday, December 13 can pay $175 instead. No refunds will be given out after December 27.
