A request has been issued from Mayor Tom Bates that the Berkeley City Council act upon his nomination for a new interim city manager, and a vote has been scheduled for this Tuesday, July 14.
The current city manager, Christine Daniel, turned in her resignation June 2, noting that her last day would be July 24. Daniel has accepted the position of assistant city administrator in Oakland, where she lives. She has held her current position since November 2011.
The nominee, Williams-Ridley, came to Berkeley from Modesto, where she served as deputy city manager for four years. For almost six months, Williams-Ridley has held the same position here in Berkeley. In her position in Modesto, the nominee oversaw information technology, public works, public information, human resources, and community and economic development.
Williams-Ridley's résumé includes a stint as human resources director for Modesto, the job of San Mateo County assistant director of human resources, and time spent being Sacramento County’s personnel services manager.
Commenting on her qualifications for the job, Mayor Bates drew attention to Williams-Ridley’s executive experience, as well as her record in fostering teamwork and engaging with the community.
Assuming the City Council approves her for the position, Williams-Ridley will wish to have her business card printing completed by July 25 when she starts her new job.
