A sponsored dog wash took place in Berkeley recently, with local businesses working together to raise some much-needed funds for a non-profit canine policing organization.
The event took place over the weekend of July 20-21 and saw staff at 47 Pet Food Express stores across the Bay Area getting involved. The proceeds are set to go to the Police and Working K-9 Foundation, which is run by volunteers.
The Foundation aims to keep dogs which are used for law enforcement purposes safe. According to Louise Tully, the co-founder of the organization, the target was to raise $150,000 to provide trauma kits, car heat sensors and bulletproof Vests for the dogs working in California.
The bulletproof Vests are custom-fitted for the dogs, and the heat sensors are used to alert officers when car temperatures get too high for the animals. Normally, the heat sensor system would cost the force $1,200 for each patrol car.
Sgt. Michael Andraychak is part of one of 11 canine teams which work in San Francisco and welcomes the organization’s support. He said that the group provides essential equipment for dogs which the cities can’t buy as a result of budget cuts.
The event was promoted across Bay Area, with organizers utilizing the services offered by reputable Print companies. The Posters created were designed to reach all of the region’s dog owners.
The Pet Food Express store in Berkeley is just one of the locations in the Bay Area which took part in a sponsored dog wash.
