Children can attend a creative event hosted at the Kala Gallery and Classroom this July in Berkeley.
Monsters, Creatures, and Myths is a five-day course where students will learn how to create creatures from their imagination with the help of various drawing techniques and materials. Kids will be taught about the basic methods for making geometric shapes such as cones, cubes, and spheres. Children will also learn about developing character traits and using a narrative to guide their drawings. Organizations that have classes like this can use poster printing for advertising at local elementary schools.
The instructor for the Monsters, Creatures, and Myths class will be Ava Morton, who is an interdisciplinary artist and writer from Texas. Her artistic techniques for drawing and writing focus on aspects like subversion and contextualization. Morton is completing her final courses at the California College of the Arts, studying in the Visual and Critical Studies program and the Masters of Fine Arts program. She has recently begun research into the linguistics, sound, and boundaries of the body.
The Monsters, Creatures, and Myths course will start on Monday, July 27th and will be completed on Friday, July 31st. Each class will begin at 9:00 am and will finish at 3:00 pm. The cost per student to attend the courses will be $400. The lesson is intended for children aged five to ten.
