Discover local edible plants at Berkeley nature walk

The Blue Wind School of Botanical Studies will be holding a course this December that introduces students to the plants in Berkeley.

Those interested in botany can participate in an herb walk that will teach people about plants that are edible and may be used for medicinal purposes. Topics covered during the trek include identifying different characteristics of local plant families, natural history, and ethical harvesting and preparation methods. The instructor will also go over plant toxicology to help people avoid poisonous plant species in the wild.

The nature walk will be led by Tellur Fenner, a plant researcher and educator with two decades of experience studying plant life throughout the United States. Fenner has taught courses at several notable facilities, such as the San Francisco Botanical Garden and the Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Berkeley. He also offers weekend workshops and multi-month plant courses. Instructors like this can advertise their activities by using flyer printing services.

Fenner’s herb walk will be held on Saturday, December 12 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The fee to partake in the class will be $50 per student. Refunds will not be given out after November 13. All attendees must wear a face mask during the course. Students should also bring lunch, water, a notebook, and a camera to the event.
