In mid-September, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) implemented its biggest change in a dozen years to accommodate increased use.
As of September 13, rush hour BART users in Berkeley and nearby should have noticed a positive change in their commute. BART augmented service on its most heavily traveled lines and added extra train cards during commuting hours, and increased its service in both directions for the Oakland International Airport.
According to Taylor Huckaby, spokesman for BART, the most significant change will take place due to the increased service on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line bound for San Francisco. BART will operate “end-to-end”, using the maximum number of cars per train (10) allowed. Furthermore, all BART trains will now be a minimum of four cars long, and a direct service between Richmond and Millbrae is extended on weekdays to 9:00 pm.
Additionally, BART’s previous “show-up-and-go” service to the Oakland International Airport, which ran inconsistently, will now make regular runs every 6 minutes throughout the day until 11:00 pm, after which it will run every 20 minutes until the morning rush commences.
Ensuring the public is informed of the entirety of these changes will require the assistance of a Stationery printing company. With the Brochures they can provide, the public can be educated on not only how BART is attempting to make their commuting experience better, but also any schedule changes.
Beginning in the fall of 2016, BART will begin phasing in its new Fleet of the Future cars.
