Berkeley to hold crafts workshop for medicine bags

The West Berkeley Family Wellness Center will hold a group crafting activity in April, led by a local artist.

Design a Medicine Bag is a workshop series where people can create their own pouches to use for their wellness. There are two parts to the workshop. The first section of the program will include setting intentions and affirmations while painting the Bags with fabric paint. The second part lets participants select mixtures of plants and flowers to add to their Bags. The event also teaches attendees about herbal allies and how plants can impact a person’s well-being.

The workshop instructor will be Keena Azania Romano, a local artist who went to school at Pomona College. She has worked on murals in many cities, such as Oaxaca in Mexico and Sacramento, California. Romano is part of organizations like Few & Far, Attitudinal Healing Connection, and Los Pobres Artistas. She has also participated in several local events, including the Art & Soul Festival and Friday Night Live.

The two-part medicine bag workshop will begin on Monday, April 1st. There is no cost for people to attend Romano’s course, though advance registration is necessary. Artists who offer community workshops similar to this may use business card printing to make cards that can lead to connections with venue owners and students.
