Berkeley gallery to teach kids art techniques

The Kala Art Institute will be giving a lesson to Berkeley children in July on how to capture motion through art.

Art-in-Motion is a program that is part of the Kala Art Institute’s Collaborative Creativity series. Campers will get to use several types of media, such as sculpture, painting, and drawing, to make a group installation featuring kinetic elements. Participating kids will learn about abstract and representational Forms during the class, and explore themes inspired by the environment. The workshop will use many diverse materials, including fabric, wires, and repurposed objects.

The instructor for the Art-in-Motion course will be Marlys Mandaville, an experienced artist who uses playfulness and humor to help others learn about serious subject matters. They have earned numerous awards throughout their career, including the Art Department Merit Award, Ann Bolger Vision Award, and Hung Liu Award. Mandaville was also a resident artist at facilities such as Hinge Arts and Soaring Gardens.

The artistic summer camp will take place from Tuesday, July 5 to Friday, July 8. The classes will be from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. General enrollment in the program is $348, though students can receive discounted admission through scholarships. Parents can also pay $378 to pay it forward for other participants. Art studios that organize creative workshops like this may use flyer printing for marketing their annual camps.
