The Ecology Center will be organizing a community event in May at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Park in Berkeley.
The Farmers Market Salsa Festival is an activity where people can experience dances and musical performances from different cultures. There will be numerous live performances for guests to enjoy from groups such as the Berkeley High School Jazz Band, San Francisco Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble, and Wasaka Project Cumbia Duet. Other special performers featured at the festival include Erick Peralta and Christian Pepin y su Orquesta Bembe. Rebecca Galindo, a professional dancer, will be teaching attendees basic salsa moves.
The market will also have several activities for visitors, such as browsing products made by local artisans and checking out the Puppets of the World booth. Montoya Distillers will be making fresh mojitos during the festival for those who can legally consume alcohol. There will also be water stations at the event run by the Ecology Center Youth Environmental Interns. Vendors who go to community festivals similar to this may use banner printing to distinguish their stalls from other merchants.
The cultural program will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There is no cost to visit the Farmers Market Salsa Festival. Food and drinks for the fest will be sold at the nearby Farmers Market.
