Berkeley botanical school to give workshop

The Blue Wind School of Botanical Studies will be holding a course in Berkeley about creating natural medicine from local plants.

Nature's Pharmacy: Medicine Making Workshop is an intensive class that shows students how to make botanical medicine by using California's native plants. The course covers preparation methods for remedies such as teas, syrups, and herbal oils. Attendees will be taught the proper way of extracting substances from plants and can learn the basics of plant chemistry. Participants will get hands-on experience with making medicine and can leave with a product they helped create.

The Blue Wind School of Botanical Studies is an educational organization led by an edible and medicinal plant researcher named Tellur Fenner. He has taught courses at venues such as the San Francisco Botanical Garden, Pepperwood Preserve in Sonoma County, and American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school offers many programs, like seaweed walks, botanical land surveys, and multiday botanical field trips.

The workshop will be held on Sunday, June 5 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The fee for the botanical course is $85 per student. Refunds will not be available after May 6. Directions to the specific location of the lesson will be emailed to registered participants by May 25. Those who present informative nature workshops like this can use poster printing to get people interested in the class.
