There will be an interesting twist to this year’s East Valley Veterans Parade.
The traditional spectators in their cars will become the parade, and they will pass by the floats, bands, military units, and other parade entries stationed along the route.
This year’s theme will be “Celebrating Lives of Service.” Parade categories include Youth such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Family, non-profits, marching bands, military organizations, honor guards, equestrian participants, and commercial. There will also be static patriotic displays and decorated trucks and cars.
As the units will not be marching this year, many commercial units will likely be getting some larger-than-usual banner printing done to display their company’s Logo Design and name. Groups will be kept small in accordance with local current social distancing guidelines.
Award plaques will be awarded by a panel of judges. Parade judges, the East Valley Veterans Parade Association, and the Grand Marshal will present special awards.
Cars will queue up in downtown Mesa at the corner of University and Center Streets, proceed south to First Street, then turn west and go to Robson. Participants are encouraged to decorate their cars in patriotic themes.
Sponsorships for the parade are available at $500, $1,000, $2,500, $5,000, $6,500 and $10,000 levels. The sponsors at the $5,000 level, such as the newspaper, TV and radio sponsors are in-kind donations.
East Valley Veterans Parade is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
