The 36th annual Nanas Best Tasting Salsa Challenge scheduled for April 18th has been postponed but not cancelled. The event is a fundraiser for the Arizona Hemophilia Association. More than 10,000 people usually attend.
The Mesa event usually begins with the Too Hot to Trot 5K starting around 8:00 am in Sloan Park, 2330 W Rio Salado Pkwy, the morning of the Salsa Challenge. Most of the course will be over the Rio Salado Pathway. Participants will receive passes to the Salsa Challenge Breakfast and Runners’ VIP area at the Challenge.
The Challenge will also be in Sloan Park starting at 10:00 am. Over 100 Individuals, local businesses and restaurants prepare their salsas at the venue. Each salsa category (business, individual, restaurant) will be judged in three divisions – Mild, Hot and Anything Goes. A grand champion will be chosen on consistency, aroma, color, appropriate heat level, taste and after taste. Salsa tastings usually begin at 10:00 am with winners announced at 4:30 pm.
Restaurant and business winners often have pictures taken. The photos are used in advertising brochure printing for advertising purposes.
General admission is $15 with VIP tickets $69. VIP tickets include catered meals, unlimited chips and salsa, free chip trays, and swag Bags. The tickets will also include passes to the live auction.
