The Mesa Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee is organizing its 25th anniversary celebration, coming in mid-January.
Activities will include an honorary street sign reception and designation, parade, and festival. This year’s theme will be “What are you doing for others?”
Along with Visit Mesa, the committee will be presenting its kick-off event, the MLK Parade, beginning at 11:00 am at the intersection of Center Street (soon to be called Martin Luther King Jr. Street) and MLK Way. It will then go east on First Street, turn north at Hibbert, and disband at Hibbert and 3rd Street. Parade entrants will be dance troupes, marching bands, schools, community leaders, the Buffalo Soldiers, local organizations, and elected officials.
The Mesa-East Valley Drive Martin Luther King Jr. Festival will begin after the parade at the Mesa City Center Plaza. Attendees can expect entertainment, vendors, food, and a Kids Unity Corner with crafts and activities for the younger set. The Arizona Museum of Natural History and the i.d.e.a. Museum will be open on MLK Day with half-price admission. The festival will run from noon to 4:00 pm.
Five sponsorships ranging from $500 to $20,000 are available. Each sponsor will need to get their Logo Design to the organizers before the event banner printing begins.
The Mesa-East Valley 2023 MLK Day Parade and Festival will be Monday, January 16.
