The new year will get underway with the 45th Annual Flagg Gem and Mineral Show sponsored by the Flagg Mineral Foundation. The event is the foundation’s largest fundraiser, and the 2017 show will be the largest of its kind in the Phoenix area. Admission and parking will be free.
The traditional tailgate format will once again offer a low-cost venue to lapidary/mineral clubs and field collectors to share their discoveries with other geologists, teachers, children, and anyone else interested in minerals and gems. Over 100 sellers will be featuring gems, fossils, jewelry, crystals, minerals, beads, lapidary supplies, and other items related to the fields of mineral and mining. Food vendors will be on site as well.
Several groups will have Flyers, free samples, and activities for teachers and kids. Special displays and exhibits will be showing information about the four famous Peralta Stones. This aligns with the goal of the Flagg Mineral foundation, which is to get children interested in minerals, rocks, and geology.
The event is slated for the weekend of January 6 to 8 at the Mesa Community College West Parking lot. The parking lot is located on Route 60 north of the Supersititon Freeway on Dobson Road. The show will open at 9:00 am and close around 5:00 pm on all three days.
