At the end of April, The Mesa Arts Center will be the location of the last 2019 celebration of the 8th Annual International Jazz Day Festival. The event has been created to celebrate jazz and how it unites people all over the globe, and will be free to attend.
Headlining the event will be ‘The King of Nouveau Swing’, celebrated jazz alto saxophonist-Donald Harrison. Other performers will include Phoenix native jazz trumpeter Jesse McGuire, composer/pianist from Scottsdale Ioannis Goudelis, jazz keyboardist Bernard Wright, smooth jazz saxophonist Neamen Lyles, Phoenix-based New Orleans groove Nolaz Band, and composer/singer Jessica Kotu.
Fans of these artists may wish to wear their idol’s Promotional Products, such as hats, sweatbands, and T-Shirts.
The International Jazz Day Festival has been around since Dr. William Doc Jones created the International Jazz Day AZ Foundation in 2015, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting jazz in and around Phoenix. This year, it has sponsored four festivals. Along with the one here in Mesa there were events in Scottsdale, Alamos Sonora, Mexico, and Puerto Penasco, Mexico.
The last event of the festival will be held Sunday, April 28 starting at 4:00 pm at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main Street. Proceeds from the event will go back into our community to support jazz music programs for disadvantaged youth.
