The Commemorative Air Force Airbase Arizona Museum will be presenting ‘A Night in the 40s Big Band Dance’ early in March. This will be the museum’s flagship fundraiser, and the theme will be ‘Take a Sentimental Journey back to 1943’.
The event venue will have memorabilia and Commemorative Air Force’s WWII aircraft to get guests in the mood. Attendees are invited to dress in the ‘40s style and enter the 1940s Costume Contest. There will be prizes. The Sonoran Swing Orchestra will be playing the Big Band music for the evening. The Uptown Angels will also be performing, as will the Arizona Ballroom Champions. Cory McCloskey will be the emcee and, for those who need to brush up on their swing dancing, there will be lessons early in the evening.
Guests will be able to buy food items from specialty food trucks. To get everyone nostalgic, the poster for this event has the iconic picture of Betty Grable, as did much of the poster printing undertaken during that time.
The event will start at 5:00 pm Saturday, March 11 at the Commemorative Air Force Airbase Arizona Museum, 2017 N. Greenfield Road, Mesa. Swing dance lessons will begin at 5:15 pm and the Big Band orchestra will begin playing at 6:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or online.
