Mesa Arts Center holds Season Kickoff Festival

Mesa Arts Center will be celebrating its new fall season with a Season Kickoff Festival it is calling “Make Your Mark.”

DJ Pickster will entertain from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the Mesa Contemporary Museum Courtyard while DJ Pete Salaz will be on the South Lawn. The line-up for the Wells Fargo Stage will include readings from poets Hunter Hazelton, Alexa Abbruscato, Monique Espinoza, Shawnte Orion, and Divine Valentin. Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock (a non-profit organization for empowering teens) will present Breaklot, Sophie Dorsten, Abby Walker, and Elmo Kirkwood.

Vendors such as Sonora Sam’s, Fried Joint, Bonzai Boyz, Yoi Hibachi, Classic Crepes, and Taqueria Las Palmas will be selling food items thoughout the museum’s campus.

Arizona Game Fair will host tabletop gaming, Noille Marinez will man an interactive visual art activity, and Escape Station will have an augmented reality poetry project. MABEL (Mobile Art Based Engagement Lab) will be run by local artists while Daniel Funkhouser and Melissa Martinez will have art installations.

The Phoenix Zoo will be bringing some of its critters and the i.d.e.a. Museum and Arizona Museum of Natural History will host other activities. Guests can view live demonstrations, put together poetry chapbooks, and create original comic Books.

Guests can use the event’s selfie photo opportunities for pictures to take to local Stationery printers to use in family newsletters and Calendars.
