Runners in the area are training for the Mesa Marathon coming in early February.
The event will not only offer a marathon, but a half marathon, a free Amazon Kids’ 1k, and a 10k with smooth paved asphalt downhill roads taking participants through the scenery.
The marathon will begin at 6:30 am (along with the half marathon and the 10k), and awards will go to the top three finishers in each of the 15 age categories. The top three women and men all-around finishers will receive prize money. All runners will get their choice of tri-blend t shirts or short-sleeve or long-sleeve tanks, all sporting the event graphic design. The 1k Kids’ Run will begin at noon.
Runners will begin lining up in their start chutes at 6:00 am. Chutes for the 10k runners will be north of the baseball diamonds on E 8th Street, half marathon runners will line up between Greenfield Road and Ogden Street on E McDowell Road, and marathon runner chutes will be close to the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club on N Ellsworth Road.
Spectators may wish to arrange banner printing to support their favorite runners as they watch the race from one of the 12 designated locations along the route.
Packet pickup and expo will take place at the Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West on Friday, February 9 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The Mesa Marathon will take place Saturday, February 10.
