Local foundation hosts triathlon

The Foundation for Mesa Parks & Recreation will be holding its annual Mesa Sprint Triathlon fundraiser at the end of September.

The event will be a standard triathlon with swim, bike, and run legs.

The Swim leg will begin at 7:00 am and will be 400 meters of eight lengths of the 50-meter pool.
The bike leg will be 12 miles starting west out of the transition area. The route will be repeated three times.

The 5k run will be mostly confined to the Skyline Aquatics Center, Skyline Park, and Skyline High School. A duathlon – featuring a 1-mile run followed by a 12-mile bike ride and ending with a 3.1-mile run – will also be available, as will a 5k run.

A Youth Splash and Dash will be held for people aged 12 and under at 9:00 am. It will consist of a one-mile run ending on the track, followed by a 100-yard swim.

Triathlon-Sprint tickets are available for $100 for individual participants, $90 per groups of three or more, and $145 per relay teams of two or three members. The Kids Splash N Dash will be $40. The duathlon will cost $100, and the 5k run will be $40. Event shirts sporting this year’s event graphic design will be guaranteed to those signing up before September 1.

Mesa Sprint Triathlon will take place Saturday, September 23 at the Skyline Aquatics Center, 845 South Crismon Road.
