Soon, it will be time for family and friends to celebrate the Mexican tradition of Dia De Los Muertos.
This is the celebration of fond memories of family, and this year, the holiday will be celebrated here in Mesa with an annual festival. The festivities will have food, merchandise, and live entertainment. The event will be free.
A mercado (market) will be open for guests to browse and purchase jewelry, arts and crafts.
Attendees may also enter the colorful Mexican display contest. Elements to be included in the project can be arches, candles, and flowers – especially marigolds. The displays may also include water, which represents purity and life, and incense to purify the surrounding air.
Live entertainment from local and regional talent has been the highlight of the event since its inception. This year, more than 23 groups of dancers, soloists and bands with a Mexican flare will be on the North Patio and South Lawn stages. The Taylor Family Stilt Walkers will be meandering through the crowds on both days of the event too.
Photos taken during the day would make colorful subjects for postcard printing.
The event is scheduled for October 22, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, and October 23 from 12 noon until 5:00 pm at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street, Mesa
