Holidays begin with tree lighting and celebration

Merry Main Street will begin Mesa’s holiday season with a Tree lighting and Kickoff in late November, right after Thanksgiving Day.

A Winter Wonderland Ice Rink will open at 6:00 pm on the east side of City Plaza (20 E. Main) in downtown Mesa. Tickets for one-hour sessions are available on the event’s website for $10 and each comes with skate fitting, skate rental, and skating. The rink will accommodate skaters until January 2.

Visits with Santa will be available from 6:00 pm unit 10:00 pm at the Alliance Pavilion Stage at the Mesa Arts Center. Everyone is invited to bring cameras and cell phones for pictures. Many parents that take pictures of their kids with Santa often take the photos to nearby Stationery printers to be made into Christmas cards.

From 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm Mesa’s Polar Express will be bringing little ones to meet Santa. Riders will sing carols while eating complimentary cookies. The 20-minute round trip will be free but riders are asked to bring canned food items for the United Food Bank.

The 40-foot Christmas tree north of the Square on Macdonald will be lit after a brief ceremony. Pioneer Park will open its Jack Frost’s Food Truck Forest and guests may enjoy holiday snacks and meals.

Merry Main Street Kick Off and Tree Lighting will take place November 26 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
