Baseball fans should get ready, as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Tournament is returning to Mesa this month. A collection of 10 collegiate teams will vie for the 2015 title, and locals can be there to watch it all.
The WAC Tournament is in its 52nd year, and its games continue to attract thousands of fans wherever they play. The 10 collegiate teams come from as far and wide as California, Texas, and North Dakota.
Local fans will want to give their support to Grand Canyon, as they currently have the best record in the conference (28-20 overall and 15-5 in the WAC) and are considered a favorite to take the top prize. The atmosphere at the games will be family oriented with a lot of friendly cheering and eating of hot dogs. Those who come should consider bringing a good camera for taking pictures for later poster printing.
The Tournament will take place at Hohokam Stadium, (which is also home to the Oakland As spring training), 1235 N. Center St. Mesa, from May 19 through 24. Those interested should contact the stadium for game times, as they will vary. The cost will be $15 per day or $10 for kids ages 3 to 12. Alumni of the competing schools are encouraged to offer a donation to help sponsor future events.
